Surepoint Stud Hole Elongation Testers

Surepoint stud hole elongation testers provide a quick and simple method of measuring the effects of pressure on the hole that the stud passes through before being attached to the hub via the wheel nut.

The purpose of the stud hole elongation tester is to check that the shape of the hole has not been elongated by the movement of a stud caused by a loose wheel nut.  It will also identify if the hole has been damaged by the over-tightening of a wheel nut.

Studs that have been constantly over-tightened tend to lose their elasticity and will appear to need frequent re-tightening. Once the studs will have stretched beyond their designed limit they will lengthen and then shear, either by re-tightening or under running conditions - the latter having potentially lethal results.

Clips designed to secure wheel nuts mounted onto stretched studs can unfortunately give a false sense of security. A gap of a micron or so between wheel nuts and the wheel rim can result in movement between rim and nuts causing stress to the studs which in time become work-hardened (brittle) leading to the studs shearing off without any warning. Furthermore, nut retention devices do not address wheel stud condition itself.

Surepoint Stud Hole Elongation Testers provide a safe an effective indication of constant nut rotation or a sheared stud and are available for spigot mounted wheels and conical or spherical stud holes.
